Kurama stared down in wonder and disbelief at his very first child, sleeping on his chest. It was only the baby’s second day of life in the world. He was so proud of this baby, and loved him with all his heart. Masaki’s tiny body breathed gently, his form completely relaxed in his father’s arms. He kissed the baby’s spiky black hair. He was glad to have the Urameshi family over today to meet him.

Hiei was leaning on the couch behind Kurama looking at Masaki with a grin. "Amazing isn't it?" He asked "How this being was created from almost nothing. It's...ours" Hiei couldn't help but to feel a sense of proud accomplishment. "Masaki Minamino..."

"Yes...ours." Kurama knew that the little baby was a token of his and Hiei's love, something they made together, and suddenly, his eyes filled with tears. He was so thankful to have Hiei as his husband and Masaki as his new baby son. "I love you, Hiei," he whispered, giving Hiei a one-armed hug as he held the still-sleeping little boy in the other.

Now let's get one thing straight: Yusuke didn't MIND kids. Never had, even way back when he was a kid himself. For fuck's sake, the whole Spirit Detective bullshit that started it all was from him saving a kid. But in Yusuke's mind, there was d a difference between kids and babies.

Kids were innocent and could communicate and entertain themselves. He'd never had to uphold his reputation in front of one, and despite what most people thought, never minded when the brats climbed all over him. If they wanted something, they told you, and they were honest in their thoughts and opinions in ways that adults weren't.

Babies were fragile and loud and stinky and every tantrum they threw was a guessing game of how to shut it up. But for his closest friends and family, he'd suck it up. Two of them had just had a baby, and Yusuke was simultaneously ecstatic and freaking terrified to meet Masaki. At least Keiko was there to keep him from making an ass of himself.

They arrived at the Kurama-Jaganshi residence and Yusuke opened the door without knocking. "Honey, we're home." he drawled, not quite calling but not quite keeping his voice down either.

The baby stirred slightly in Kurama's arms at the loud voice Kurama recognized as his friend Yusuke's. He shook his head with fond exasperation. Didn't Yusuke know that the baby might be sleeping? Oh well, it was nice of him and Keiko to come and visit anyway, Kurama thought.

Still holding the sleeping baby boy in his arms, Kurama waved for Hiei to follow him and headed to the door to greet his friends. He put a finger to his lips and gestured to the baby.

"This is our son, Masaki," he whispered with a smile. "Please try to be quiet."

Masaki was a good-sized baby, not too small, not too big. Except for being slightly bigger, at first glance he completely resembled Hiei, with only a few key differences. Masaki's hair was the exact same as Hiei's, except where Hiei's hair was white, Masaki's was red, the same shade as Kurama's. And amazingly, though Masaki did awaken when his father whispered, he didn't cry. His eyes just opened very wide, and they moved to stare directly into Yusuke's, an intense gaze to be sure. The color of the eyes wasn't red, as one might expect; they were a dazzling emerald-green, another trait he shared with Kurama. Noticing that his baby was awake but not crying, Kurama held Masaki very still. He realized it was Masaki's first time meeting anyone other than him or Hiei, and he was probably very curious.

"Heh." Hiei snorted at Yusuke's entrance,he hasn't changed a bit after all these years.

Watching Masaki's reaction towards meeting Yusuke,Hiei couldn't help but to smile. "Hn. I think he likes you." Hiei poked baby Masaki gently resulting in a giggle from the boy who then grabbed onto Hieis finger

Kurama came in carrying the tiniest living thing Yusuke had ever seen. Aside from various demons who registered on his pest-scale like a mosquito. Ignoring Keiko cooing, Yusuke peaked closer at the baby. Kurama introduced their son as Masaki, which Yusuke already knew, but leave it to Kurama to start introducing manners early.

Masaki opened green eyes, already as intelligent and sharp as both of his fathers', and Yusuke gave a grin to him. "Yo. Nice to meet'cha, Masaki." Hiei declared Masaki liked him before poking his own son in his face. Luckily Masaki didn't seem to yet have his shorter dad's temper, cuz he giggled and grabbed onto it.

Years ago Yusuke would have teased his friend for the soft look on his face. Now... Well he'd STILL tease Hiei about it, but later, when there wasn't a baby about to cry about the ensuing tussle. "Well I'd hope so. Hard to be Uncle Yusuke if the brat didn't like me!" Looking back at Masaki, he added like he would to any adult, "No offense kid. I say it with affection."

Kurama's heart melted when he saw Masaki grab onto Hiei's finger, and how receptive Hiei and the baby were to each other. It was amazing how much personality babies could have, even when they were so young. It was clear to see that Masaki loved anything having to do with his family, so it was good that there was so much more family to meet. 

Normally, it wouldn't have made Kurama very happy for someone to say his newborn was a brat, but he knew Yusuke well, and that was his friend's idea of a friendly way to address a baby. Masaki may have been only one day old, but as he was a demon child, he was more alert developmentally than a human baby would be, with more fine motor skills and more receptive to the world around him. When Yusuke spoke, he got Masaki's attention. Masaki let go of Hiei and stretched out his arms towards Yusuke.

"I think he wants you to hold him," Kurama interpreted. "What do you say?"
