We're not too uptight about rules around here, since RP is about having fun. However, in order to keep the forum running smoothly, it's important to have some rules that everyone (including staff!) needs to follow. Also, please note that this list is NOT static (especially since as of this post, our forum is new!) and there will likely be some amendments. We recommend checking up every so often on the rules to see if anything has changed.
1. Mature content is not allowed anywhere on the site. This includes sexual content and graphic violence. Of course, some violence is permitted (it's Yu Yu Hakusho, after all), but please, nothing too awful. Rule of thumb: SFW, SFL (safe for work and safe for lunch).
2. Please keep all posts in English. Exceptions can be made for dialogue, but make sure you provide a translation in your post!
3. No real-world politics. Makai has its own political issues; please don't bring real-life issues into this (abortion, healthcare, Covid regulations, etc.).
4. Please adhere to the forum timeline when making posts. If you want to add or change something, please follow the directions provided in the post.
5. Please use one character per account. Please remember to change accounts when you are posting as another character, even if it is in the same thread. You do not need a separate email address for each character! Rather, you would ideally create a ProBoards global account and use the same email address for every character you create. You should only be asked for an activation key once if this is the case.
6. Advertisements are to be posted in this board only. Anywhere else and it will be deleted. In exchange for advertising on our forum, we only ask that we are allowed to do the same on yours! Please note that this includes other ProBoards forums only.
7. Godmoding, power-playing, and metagaming are not to be used. Godmoding is controlling another person's character. The thoughts, feelings, actions, dialogue, etc. are controlled by the member who plays them, and are not to be posted by any other member, not even if the two characters are played by the same person (this is to eliminate confusion). Power-playing is a character that's all-powerful. You know what we're talking about here: that one character who can't be defeated, who has no weaknesses, who has every skill, disrupts every plotline, responds to your attacks with "That won't work on me!" and never loses any battles. So please, don't make it all about yourself, and let other characters shine as well! Don't be afraid to lose a battle: not even the Three Kings or the four main characters were invincible. Finally, metagaming is using information that your character might not know. For example, when fighting a character, don't take info about their weaknesses from their bio and just have your character magically know this. Your opponent may be weak to a certain thing, but your character needs to figure this out on his/her own.
8. When fighting or otherwise, please do not add additional power sets to fit the occasion/avoid losing the battle. Each character has a specific set of skills as listed in their bio, which is then approved and locked by an admin. If you want your character to have an additional power or skill, it must be approved by an admin and added to their bio. It may not be added to any ongoing or archived posts.
9. When in a battle, please keep the battle to one thread. This is simple enough. Just start the thread when the battle starts (or with the catalyst event) and end with the victor.
10. Posts are to be in third person, past tense. They should also be at least 50 words long and have reasonable spelling and grammar. If your character is thinking, please use italics; if your character is speaking, use “quotations”; if your character is using telepathy, use double stars (**like this**) and make sure you state who your character is speaking to. (Most characters in YYH seem to be capable of communicating this way.) if your character is doing something, describe it in past tense, with no “I” or “we” statements. If you’re not sure, read other players’ posts to get an example. If posts routinely break these guidelines, the user will be notified. In general, a post should read like a paragraph or two out of a novel. We're not too strict; as long as it's a fairly legible paragraph, it should be fine.
11. Double-posting is not allowed. If you have more to add, please either edit the post or wait for someone else to add to the thread.
12. Threads take place within the board and date that they are posted. So if a thread starts on January 1, it is January 1 in that thread, no matter how much time passes by. Exceptions occur, of course, if a day actually passes by in the thread! Also, remember how these things might affect your characters. If a character loses a limb in a thread, for example, they will be missing that limb for every thread thereafter.
13. Please, no crossover content. We are a forum for YYH RP only.
14. When creating a character, it is fine to "import" an OC from a fanfic or another site. Just keep in mind that some details about the character may have to be changed to fit the events and timeline, especially if the character was originally created for another fandom.
15. We ask that you post at least four times a month, or once a week on average. This means that you post once per week for each account, not once per week overall. If you posted four times in one week and then not at all for the rest of the month, this does count, but if it's easier for you to spread it out, feel free to do so. Both thread starters and post replies count towards this! Activity will be logged at the first of every month, and members will be notified if this activity requirement is not fulfilled. This rule exists because nobody wants to join a forum that's inactive. What could be worse than checking out a forum, thinking it looks like fun, only to realize that nobody has posted in the past two months? If you've been on the forum for less than a month before the activity check, you will, needless to say, not face account deletion if your posts have not been completed. (So, for example, if you joined halfway through January, you won't be involved in the January activity check.)
16. Where applications are concerned, please create one as soon as possible after you register. We can understand being eager to roleplay, and that's what this is all about. However, we do ask that your profile and your application are both completed, then reviewed and locked by administration, before you start role-playing. (If there's something you'd like to change after your character is accepted, send a PM to an admin and we'll temporarily unlock it for you.) Creating an application is easy; just click on "Create Your Bio" in the Quick Links menu. You just need to provide an image and some basic information! Canon characters are not required to write applications.
17. AUs are magical! Due to the open-ended way in which the anime ended, none of the events on the timeline can truly be considered non-canon, though few are technically canon, either. Therefore, when we say "canon," we're either referring to something that's canon in the anime (such as Yusuke being the ancestral son of Raizen) or something that's canon to the forum (such as Kurama's long-lost twin, Hiei being in contact with his father, and all the kids and couples). We are not strict here about canon compliancy, but we do prefer that the continuity within the forum itself checks out!
18. Feel free to create relatives of canons or already-existing OCs, but there are a few things to keep in mind. On this forum, Makaian medical technology exists that will allow children to be created in many ways: not just by a man and a woman, but by cloning, by two men, or by two women (we can thank Shura in his artificial womb for a canonical indication of this). So don't feel limited in any way. If you want a character to have a child but you don't want them to conceive with whoever they're paired up with, they can always have cloned themselves, or perhaps the DNA fusion was simply done as a sort of experiment and the two are co-parenting. (For example, if you really want a Kurama/Botan baby, you can have one, even if Kurama/Botan is not canonical to the forum.) Yusuke/Keiko, Yukina/Kuwabara, Shiori/Kazuya, and Enki/Kokou are the only couples that are considered canon to both the forum and the anime. If you are going to create the child, sibling, or other relative of an OC that you do not play, please PM that member first to make sure they are okay with it!
19. Please note that all characters on the site must be 11+ and any character under 11 (such as if a baby is born throughout the course of the story) is considered an NPC (non-playable character). Pets are also considered NPCs; accounts are for human and demon characters only.
20. Please post new threads in the correct board. All threads, no matter the subject, go in the "YYH RP Threads" category. Please read the descriptions to figure out where your thread starter should be. (For example, two characters going on a date would probably go in the "Special Invitations" thread.) If you post in the Special Invitations thread, make sure you tag the person you want to RP with by typing a "@" followed by their username, or they might not see the post! Any out-of-character chat goes in the Shoutbox. If you have any questions about posting, please don't hesitate to contact an admin!
21. HAVE FUN! Not much more to say. Enjoy yourself, be yourself, and if you have any questions or concerns at all, please do not hesitate to contact a staff member. We're here to help!
