Maybe this was a mistake.

Ryu tried to put that thought out of his mind. How could this be a mistake? True, everyone always said he was impulsive, but proposing to Shura wasn't some rash decision. He loved that cloned goat demon with all of his heart...more than he thought he ever could love. So why did he feel so nervous whenever he thought of the upcoming wedding? Could it be that they weren't ready? But that would break Shura's heart, wouldn't it? To call the engagement off would surely break them up entirely, and Ryu didn't want that...But getting married would bring so much change. He was moving to Makai to be with Shura, and although he liked the thought of living there (and he would have to anyway if he won the tournament), somehow, maybe there were things he would miss at home. It was all so confusing.

Tuesday morning started out peacefully enough; Kurama was at work, Miyuki was doing her online college, Natsumi was at a friend's house, and Tomohiro was happily reading up in his room. Ryu tried to do training but he couldn't concentrate, so he went back inside the house, only to find Hiei in the kitchen.

"Touchan?" said Ryu in an unusually quiet voice. "I need to talk to you."

Hiei looked up from the book he was reading and turned to Ryu,confused by the uncharacteristically quiet tone. "Sure what's up?"

"Well..." Ryu didn't know how to begin. It wasn't as if talking about feelings was his strong point, and it wasn't his Touchan's, either. Still, out of everyone in his family, he was the closest to Hiei. After all, they were similar in a lot of ways. Ryu didn't know how to bring up the topic of his own upcoming wedding, so he said, "Touchan...weren't you the one who declared your love for Otou-san in the middle of an airport?" Ryu didn't really know where the discussion would lead from here, but at least he'd managed to say something.

"Yeah..why do you ask?" Hiei was remembering that day,how everything just came out his face reddened a bit as he remembered but he closed his eyes and regained his composure. "Is something up?"

"Uh...not really," Ryu lied nervously. "I just wanted to know...when you were engaged to Otou-san, didn't you have any doubts? Like, weren't you afraid of all the changes that were going to happen? I mean, you had to move from Makai to Ningenkai to live with him. Wasn't that something?"

Ryu was wondering if Hiei had the same mixed feelings about moving to Ningenkai for Kurama that he, Ryu, had about moving to Makai for Shura.

Hiei took a mooment looking up to think and remember his mindset. "hmm,well yes it was hard to accept the Ningenkai as my home. I've always preferred the Makai, but More than anything I wanted to be with your Otou-san,I knew whatever would happen he would be there and I wouldn't have to go through it alone." Hiei was starting to understand why Ryu was asking this,he hoped this had at least helped ease him.

"Oh...I see..." The knot in Ryu's stomach had untwisted ever-so-slightly upon learning that he wasn't the only one who felt things like this. "Then I guess...you'd rather live with him in his world than live without him in yours." Ryu shrugged. "And it's different for me, anyway. Moving to Makai to be with Shura won't be as hard for me because I'm a demon, and I'd have to move there anyway if I win the Tournament."

Just then Ryu realized what had come out. He wanted it to seem like he was talking about Hiei's relationship with Kurama, but now Hiei would know they were talking about him. Ryu dropped his gaze in embarrassment.

"Um...not that I was worried about that or anything," he added. He didn't want anyone to think he ever worried.

Hiei thought to himself,he really is my child.  " I guess you could say that." He decided to act like he didnt hear that last part and save Ryu his dignity 

"One thing I was taught by Kurama,was  that everything has a reason for happening." He stated standing from where he was sitting

The words resonated with Ryu, but he was still confused. There were some bad times in his Touchan's life, weren't there? And it wasn't as if Ryu didn't know the story of what had happened to Kurama before Masaki was born, how he was in a car accident, and if he had died...he wouldn't be here, and neither would Miyuki or the twins!

"You think everything happens for a reason?" he asked. "Even the bad stuff?"

"Yeah..." Hiei said now playing with his tear gem. "The bad helps you become stringer and makes it so you enjoy the good times,it can show you how much you really care for others." Hiei was smiling but  was remembering the time he thought he lost Kurama after a silly argument,the day he didnt want to live anymore, as all these thoughts went racing he didnt realize he was starting to cry

'I really have gotten soft,Havent I Kurama?' He thought "But thats..ok.'

"Everything turned out ok. After all we're both standing here right?"
